About Us

Urmston and District Riding Club is a very popular, local and friendly show that has grown annually since its inception in 1956. Set on the outskirts of Urmston near Manchester, in 40 acres of Greenland, our showground makes the perfect setting for a fun day of showing horses and ponies alike.

Founded in the 1950's by the late Larry Morrissey with the help of his friends; Mr John Oakes, Mr Don Spencer and Mr Frank Burton the shows popularity grew and members flocked from afar to take part in their events.

Mr Oakes ran the club until his retirement in 2021 and has seen generations of families pass through Urmston & District Riding club. As one of the longest running, local riding clubs in the country UDRC continues to grow year on year.

You can register to become a member or just turn up on the day and take part, it really is up to you!

However, becoming a member of our club allows you to gain points throughout the season where you may then be eligible to win trophies and medals at our end of year presentation evening.

Please have a look through our website, download our show schedule and come along to one of our shows. Our shows still have the exciting and sociable atmosphere they did when we started 62 years ago. Whether you want to show of your skills in our in-hand ring, enjoy our ridden classes, compete in the show jumping rings or just simply have a go at our very popular novelty classes; there really is something for all the family to have a go at.
